College of Pharmacy Learning Management System

University of Illinois at Chicago (UIC), College of Pharmacy

Office of Continuing Education and Meeting Services (OCEMS)

We invite you to look through our Course Catalog and discover the wide variety of courses we offer.  It is through this site that we encourage you to register for all of our courses, live and on-line. Our goal is to provide convenient, worthwhile programming which meets the needs of today's pharmacists.

When you receive an e-mail confirming your course registration, you will know that have registered successfully for a course .  If a course confirmation e-mail does not come, it means that you have registered in our overall learning management system (LMS) but not for a course.  To correct this, again click "register" on the far right side of the course information box.   Now, you should be registered in the course and receive a confirmation e-mail (specific detailed instructions follow if you are more comfortable using these).

Again, we welcome you to our continuing education site and its wide selection of courses.  If you have questions about our courses, registering for them, or suggestions for future courses, please do not hesitate to use the "Contact Us" in the navigation bar.

CPE Monitor

The Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education (ACPE) and the National Association of Boards of Pharmacy (NABP) have recently announced a new electronic tracking service for pharmacists and pharmacy technicians called, CPE Monitor. The purpose of CPE Monitor is to authenticate and store data for completed CPE units received by pharmacists and pharmacy technicians from ACPE-accredited providers. Beginning in the latter part of 2011, each pharmacist and pharmacy technician will be required to set up a NAPB e-Profile to receive a unique e-Profile ID number.  In order to obtain credit for any ACPE-accredited CPE activities, a participant will have to provide his/her NAPB e-Profile ID number and birth date (MMDD) to the ACPE-accredited provider.  Pharmacists and technicians are encouraged to obtain their NABP e-Profile ID now to ensure their e-Profile is properly setup.

For more information about CPE Monitor, please visit: http://www.acpe-accredit.org/pharmacists/cpemonitor.asp

To set up your NABP e-Profile and obtain your ID, please visit: http://www.nabp.net/programs/cpe-monitor/cpe-monitor-service/index.php.

Statement of Policy Regarding Assurance of Balance, Disclosure, Non-Commercialization

It is the policy of the UIC College of Pharmacy Office of Continuing Education and Meeting Services to ensure balance, independence, objectivity, and scientific rigor in all its individually or jointly presented CE programs. Fair content balance will be achieved by providing the audience with information of multiple perspectives from which to form a professional opinion. In addition, the fair balance will assure that information provided does not discuss any single commercial product. Brand names of all products included in the content may be mentioned for identification purposes only.

All individuals who are in a position to control the content in any UIC College of Pharmacy CE activity are expected to disclose any real or apparent conflict(s) of interest. Disclosure pertains to relationships with any pharmaceutical companies, biomedical device manufacturers or other corporations whose products or services are related to the subject matter of this activity.

Additionally, speakers are required to disclose to participants when they discuss for any purpose an unlabeled use of a commercial product, or an investigational use not yet approved.

The intent of this policy is not to prevent a speaker with a potential conflict of interest from making a presentation. It is merely intended that any potential conflict should be identified openly so that the listeners may form their own judgments about the presentation with the full disclosure of the facts.

Disclosure of conflicts will be collected from all speakers and summarized in the activity syllabus. Refusal to disclose potential conflicts will disqualify a speaker from participating in the CE activity. The disclosure forms for all presenters will be kept on file; in the event of a future presentation, the contributor will be asked to review and update the disclosure statement.

Conflict Resolution

The following is the process the Office of Continuing Education and Meeting Services within UIC’s College of Pharmacy will take to resolve speaker conflicts of interest when it is determined one may exist.

1. When a potential speaker conflict of interest exists, the UIC College of Pharmacy, CE Advisory Committee (CEAC) will review program content to ensure it is free from commercial bias.

2. If the CEAC is unavailable for content review or a substantial conflict of interest exists between members of the committee and the program sponsors, faculty within the UIC College of Pharmacy Drug Information Center will be asked to review program content to ensure it is free from commercial bias.

3. If a conflict is determined to exist, possible actions to resolve the conflict include:

• Requesting the speaker to forward their slides prior to the print deadline for peer review, and asking them to modify, update or remove specific content, as needed

• Replacing the speaker

Disclosure

All speakers must complete a Disclosure Form. By signing this form, individuals agree that content will be balanced and clinical recommendations are based on best evidence. This information is necessary in order for the planning of this CE activity to move to the next steps.

Thank you for registering with us, participating in our courses, and supporting pharmacy continuing education.
