Course Description
Module I Traditional Oral Anticoagulants
This course will no longer be available starting November 1, 2008.
Your University Netid and Password will allow you to access Module 2: Heparins and Module 3: Business Considerations.
Overview:
This module will cover the pharmacology, therapeutics, and drug interactions of oral anticoagulant therapy. After reviewing this module the participant will be familiar with proper indications for oral anticoagulation, goal of treatment, length of treatment, patient monitoring issues, and potential interactions with warfarin therapy.

Objectives:
1. Discuss proper indications, duration and intensity for oral anticoagulation therapy.
2. List proper monitoring parameters for patients receiving warfarin therapy
3. Identify key educational elements for patients on warfarin therapy
4. Recommend proper warfarin dosing and frequency of patient follow up
5. List side effects associated with oral anticoagulants
6. Identify drug-drug, drug-diet, drug-disease state interactions with warfarin.

The University of Illinois at Chicago College of Pharmcy is accreditted by the Accrediation Council for Pharmacy Education as a provider of continuing pharmacy education. Completion of the evaluation form and a passing grade of 70% or better on the self-assessment questions are pre-requisites for receiving continuing educaiton credit. A statement of credit verifing 0.5 CEUs (5 contact hours) will be available to the particpant the completion of the pre-requsites. Prerequisites
Once you have registered for Module 1, please email Susan Peverly at slpev@uic.edu with the following information in order to have your login ID and password activated:
Last Name, First Name, Middle Initial
Birthdate (M/D/Y) or Social Security Number
Once you have forwarded the above information, Dr. Peverly will work with the unit on campus who assigns login ID's and passwords for non-UIC students to access the online course materials. Please note this may take up to 14 business days. Once your login ID and password have been assigned, you will be forwarded the information to access the materials on the course website so you may begin Module 1. Please note you will have 60 days from that date to complete the module.
